Lewis Hamilton's title hopes literally went up in smoke when his engine failed while he was leading the Malaysian GP till lap 43 on Sunday. Hamilton had dominated the race until flames started pouring from his Mercedes, leaving him stunned.
Daniel Ricciardo finished first and his teammate Max Verstappen came in second to give Red Bull one-two at the Sepang circuit. Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg finished third to extend his lead to 23 points on the leaderboard, with five races to go and 125 points available.
After the race ended, Hamilton blasted his team and demanded questions. "My question is to Mercedes. We have so many engines made, but mine are the only ones failing this year. Someone need to give me some answers because this is not acceptable. We are fighting for the championship and only my engines are failing. It does not sit right with me," said Hamilton.
