India clinched its first gold medal at the fifth Asian Beach Games, held in Vietnam, as the women's kabaddi team beat Thailand in the final on Wednesday. This was the Indian women's kabaddi team's fifth straight gold in the event since 2008, as they beat Thailand 41-31 in what was a tense contest. The defeat was also the fifth straight one for Thailand against India at the biennial games, reported PTI.
India's Amisha Tokas won the silver in the Kurash wrestling 70 kg category after losing to Nguyen Thi Lan of Vietnam in the final. Kurash is a form of wrestling that originated in Uzbekistan. Manoj Kumar Majumdar took the bronze medal in the beach bodybuilding 158 cm category.
India have now won six medals and lie 15th in the table. This includes one gold, three silver and a bronze. Hosts Vietnam are comfortably at the top of the table with a whopping 77 medals.
