In the first case, the girl's father allegedly suffered head injuries when he tried to prevent the accused from raping his daughter. Around two dozen men allegedly raided their home, assaulted her parents and took away their valuables. Senior police officer, Manzil Saini, said, "The incident took place about 600-700m away from the girl's house." The girl is undergoing medical tests.
Elsewhere in the state, another minor was working in the fields when the accused, identified as Ranjit, accosted her. Hearing her cries for help, villagers thrashed him and handed him over to the police. Police said she was undergoing medical treatment at a local hospital.
A number of cases of sexual assault and crimes against women have been reported in the state during the past few months. On July 30, A gang of highway robbers surrounded raped a girl and her mother in a field in Bulandshahr. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been criticised for not doing enough to address crime in the state, which will hold elections early next year.
