A special Mumbai court on Monday rejected the bail plea of 2008 Malegaon blast case accused Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit, reported ANI. The two bombs set off in Malegaon, 270 km from Mumbai, left seven people dead and 101 others injured.
The National Investigation Agency that is probing the case has accused Purohit of illegally forming the Abhinav Bharat Trust that was allegedly used to procure the weapons and explosives used in the blasts, according to Hindustan Times. Purohit, however, has held that the body was formed with the knowledge and consent of senior Army officers. The agency filed its chargesheet against Purohit in May 2016.
