George had resigned from his post on July 18 after a court in Madikeri, Karnataka, ordered a First Information Report against him in the case. The court had directed the police to lodge a complaint after Deputy Superintendent of Police MK Ganapthy had named George, his son and other senior officers in his suicide note. Before his suicide on July 7, Ganapathy had told a local TV channel that if anything happened to him, the Congress minister, Lokayukta Inspector General of Police Pranab Mohanty and Additional Deputy General of Police (Intelligence) AM Prasad would be responsible.
