Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by seven runs in the first One Day International at Mirpur on Sunday. Bangladesh won the toss and choose to bat in the first of the three-match series.
Opener Tamim Iqbal top scored with 80 for Bangladesh as they Tigers were bowled out for 265 in 50 overs. Dawlat Zadran was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, with figures of 4/73. Afghanistan began their run chase on a positive note getting to 190/3 with Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi stitching a 144-run partnership. H
However, the host fought back valiantly with pacer Taskin Ahmed finishing with figures of 4/59 and Shakib Al Hasan taking 2/26 in his 10 overs. Afghanistan were bowled out for 258 to lose the match by seven runs.
