Left-winger Jeremy Corby was re-elected the Labour party leader in Britain on Saturday. He won around 62% of the vote. However, reports have said the result is a blow to political leaders who campaigned against him for apparently not campaigning hard enough to keep Britain in the European Union. Britain in June voted to leave the EU in its historic Brexit vote.
After the Brexit referendum, more than 170 (of 230) Labour party members of Parliament declared no confidence in Corbyn. However, Corbyn had refused to resign.
Corbyn was first elected the party’s leader in January, and pointed out that this was his second decisive win this year, The Guardian reported. He was challenged by Owen Smith, who won around 38% of the vote. Around 5,00,000 Labour party members and supporters voted in the election.
