Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova bounced back from their US Open disappointment by lifting the Pan Pacific Open title in Japan on Saturday. The Indo-Czech pair thumped the Chinese duo of Chen Liang and Zhaoxuan Yang 6-1, 6-1 in just 51 minutes in the final. This was their second title win together after the Cincinnati Open earlier this year.
This is Mirza's third Japan Open title in fours years, having previously lifted silverware in 2013 and 2014 with Cara Black. This is also the world No. 1's eighth title win in 2016, which includes an Australian Open win with Martina Hingis, before the duo decided to part ways.
Mirza and Strycova reached the final after being made to toil by Gabriela Dabrowski and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the semi-final, eventually winning it 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.
