Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the militant attack on the Army base in Kashmir’s Uri sector could be a fallout of alleged human rights violations in the Valley, PTI reported. He maintained that New Delhi’s allegations against Islamabad in connection with the incident were baseless. Sharif said, “The Uri attack can be the reaction of the atrocities in Kashmir, as the close relatives and near and dear ones of those killed and blinded over the last two months were hurt and outraged.”
He alleged that more than 100 people have been killed, over 150 blinded and scores injured so far in Kashmir recently. The region has been witnessing protests and violence for more than two months now, after security personnel gunned down Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8. “The whole world knows about the Indian atrocities in Kashmir,” Sharif said. He reiterated his stand when he said India should introspect its own role in Kashmir. He told Geo News that, “India does not speak about its atrocities, but only levels allegations at others". He once again demanded an investigation into the “killings of Kashmiris”.
On India's allegations against Pakistan on the Uri attack that left 18 Indian soldiers dead, Sharif said India did not carry out any investigation before blaming them for the incident, and thus behaved irresponsibly. “How could India accuse Pakistan only hours after the Uri incident without holding any inquiry or investigation,” said Sharif.
India believes Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed orchestrated the strike. Director General Military Operations Lieutenant General Ranbir Singh had said that they found items with the militants that had "Pakistani markings" on them. But, Pakistan has denied any role in the incident.
