Music composer-singer Vishal Dadlani on Wednesday met with and apologised to Jain monk Tarun Sagar for a tweet criticising his address to the Haryana Legislative Assembly, NDTV reported. Dadlani, who met Sagar at his ashram in Chandigarh, said the ascetic had “accepted his apology”, adding that the two had developed a “bond of friendship”. “I have realised a lot about myself in the last 10 days,” he said. “I have come here as my eyes have been opened.”
Dadlani had tweeted a photograph of the spiritual leader, saying he was making a “monkery of democracy”, after Sagar addressed the Haryana Assembly in the nude on August 26. He later apologised for “offending the peaceful Jain community”, saying he had not intended to “cause any offence whatsoever”. “I’m not a religious man, but I know how much religion means to believers,” he had said.
However, the Supreme Court refused to quash an FIR filed against him in the matter by an Ambala resident. The top court also rejected his plea seeking protection from arrest and directed him to approach the Bombay High Court for both appeals.
