The Volkswagen Group's process to recall its diesel models (that were involved in the emissions scandal) will begin in India with an older version of the Skoda Superb, which was discontinued in 2015. The matter involves the company installing illegal emissions-control software in its cars. The Skoda Superb was fitted with the same 2.0-litre EA 189 diesel engine that is directly linked with the emissions scandal.
The German automobile giant had announced India's biggest-ever vehicle recall of 3,23,000 diesel cars back in December. These include vehicles from across brands such as Audi, Skoda and Volkswagen. Volkswagen has claimed that they will merely update the software in the Skoda Superb models, and it will not affect the vehicle's performance or safety. Dealers or Skoda itself will contact owners of the model, according to Overdrive.
