Love him or hate him, you just cannot ignore him. Chris Gayle is the self-proclaimed "Universe Boss".
His name is synonymous with sixes, boundaries and complete annihilation of bowlers if he is in the zone. On his day, he can demolish any bowling attack in the world with complete ease and a cheeky smile on the face.
From his famous 12-ball fifty in the Big Bash for Melbourne Renegades to his 175 against Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League, Gayle is a force to reckon with in the cricketing world. As the king of Jamaica turns 37, here are three innings that showed us why he is one of the most feared Twenty20 players in the world.
108 off 54 balls for Jamaica Tallawahs
In the 2016 season of the Caribbean Premier League, Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten 54-ball 108 to lead Jamaica Tallawahs to a seven-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders. At the Queen's Park Oval, Gayle smashed 11 sixes and 6 fours in quick-fire century. Owing to his top-class hundred, Tallawahs chased down 192 in 18.2 overs for the loss of just three wickets.
12-ball 50 for Melbourne Renegades
Chris Gayle needed only 12 balls to get his half-century against Adelaide Strikers, equalling the record for the fastest Twenty20 fifty set by Yuvraj Singh against England in 2007 World T20 Cup. Gayle scored 27 runs from the first over and hit the last four deliveries for six in the Big Bash League. Gayle reached 50 in 12 balls before being dismissed for a 17-ball 56.
175 runs in the Indian Premier League
The Universe Boss hit 175 runs in a mere 66 balls back in 2013 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. Gayle tormented the bowlers of the Pune Super Warriors hitting them all around the park in an assault which still remains very clear in memory. He was at his best and made sure that RCB were clear winners without really worrying about the target of 263 he set that day.
