Four Hindi films and three English films – first day first show enthusiasts are going to have a tough time choosing.
Banjo Riteish Deshmukh and Nargis Fakhri star in Marathi superstar director Ravi Jadhav’s Hindi language debut. Deshmukh plays a street musician whose dexterity with the banjo catches the attention of Fakhri’s American DJ. The music is by Vishal-Shekhar.
Parched Leena Yadav’s third film finally arrives in cinemas after a long tour of festivals around the world. Parched is about a group of rural women who rebel against the restrictions imposed on them. The movie stars Radhika Apte, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Surveen Chawla, Lehar Khan, Sayani Gupta and Adil Hussain.
The Magnificent Seven Antoine Fuqua’s latest film is a remake of the 1960 production by John Sturges, itself a Hollywood version of Akira Kurosawa’s Japanese classic Seven Samurai (1954). Fuqua’s neo-Western stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke and Vincent D’Onofrio, among others, who take on the evil industrialist played by Peter Sarsgaard.
Bridget Jones’s Baby The third chapter in Bridget Jones’s never-ending quest for love, stability and peace of mind is not based on the book by Helen Fielding, but her columns in the Independent newspaper. Bridget (Renee Zellweger) is having trouble with her beloved Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), and seeks solace in the arms of Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey). Which of them is the father of her baby?
Days of Tafree The Hindi remake of the Gujarati hit comedy Chhello Divas by Krishnadev Yagnik traces the minor and major adventures of a group of friends in the final year of college. Yagnik has also directed the Hindi version, starring Yash Soni, Ansh Bagri, Nimisha Mehta and Anuradha Mukherjee, among others.
Storks That old yarn about storks delivering babies has finally inspired a movie. The animated production, directed by Nicholas Stoller and Doug Sweetland, is about boardroom machinations at Cornerstone, a stork delivery company. Junior (voiced by Andy Samberg), is ordered by his boss Turner (Kelsey Grammer) to fire Tulip (Katie Crown), the only human employee at Cornerstone.
Umrika Prashant Nair’s second film after Delhi in a Day is getting a very limited release in India in order to qualify for the Foreign Language Film Oscar. Ramakant (Suraj Sharma) sets out in search of his brother Udai (Prateik), who has stopped sending letters after migrating to America. The movie also stars Adil Hussain, Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Smita Tambe and Shruti Bapna.
