Club thrower Amit Kumar Saroha came within a whisker of winning India their fifth medal in the Rio Paralympics, but lost out by 0.19 m and finished fourth. Slovakia's Marian Kureja stood in the way of Saroha and the podium, taking the bronze medal with a throw of 26.82 m, compared to the Indian's 26.63 m. The other Indian in the F51 class, Dharambir Nain, finished in the ninth position with a throw of 21.39 m.
Serbia's Zeljko Dimitrijevic won the gold medal, smashing the world record with a 21.91 m throw. Another Serbian, Milos Mitric, clinched the silver medal with a 26.84 m throw.
Saroha had entered the event with high hopes after winning a silver medal at the World Championships in 2015. He had also participated in the discus throw event in this year's games.
