The doping case of wrestler Narsingh Yadav, who was denied the chance to participate in the Rio Olympics, was officially handed to the Central Bureau of Investigation, as per the 26-year-old's request, on Friday. The Wresting Federation of India confirmed the referral of the case to the CBI, saying in a statement that its president, Brij Bushan Saran Yadav, who is a member of Parliament, had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the matter.
Yadav, who won a quota spot for India at the Rio Olympics, tested positive for a banned steroid following a dope test in July. However, the National Anti-Doping Agency exoneratedhim of all charges on August 1, calling him a victim of sabotage.
However, the World Anti-Doping Agency rejected that clean chit and appealed to the Court of Arbitration of Sport against the Indian body's decision. The CAS upheld WADA's appeal and banned Yadav for four years, a day before his opening bout in Rio, due to which he could not compete.
