The bodies of four militants were recovered during search operations following the encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district that ended after three days. Security personnel also recovered four AK-47 guns, an under-barrel grenade launcher and 16 ammunition magazines, ANI reported.
The shootout began early on Sunday after law enforcement agencies raided a government building. A police officer also died in the exchange of fire. According to a director general of police, the militants had come fully prepared to harm the "calm and communal harmony in the area". "Militants infiltrating a day before Eid clearly points towards the fact that they had come here to disturb peace on Eid," he told PTI.
