How to block those seductive offers from your line of sight? Removing all the advertising from the average subway station and replacing them with pictures of the internet’s favourite animal could be one way to go.
GLIMPSE, a UK-based art collective, has undertaken a new project and given a tube station in London a makeover.
Their project, the Citizens Advertising Takeover Service or Cats received $30,845 from a Kickstarter campaign to replace all advertising in Clapham Common tube station in London with pictures of cats.
The images are not entirely free from advertising however. All of the felines in the photos are available for adoption. The group explained their position in a blog post on Medium.
It’s important to say that we’re not against advertising. We need creativity more than ever, to open our eyes to new ways of looking at the world and thinking about our place within it. We want agencies and brands to be mindful of the power they wield and to use it to encourage positive values in society.
