Bowing to demands from twitterati, industrialist Anand Mahindra tweeted that he would extend his gift-giving spree to paralympian Mariyappan Thangavelu, who won a gold medal in the high jump event at the recently-held Rio Paralympics.
Mahindra, who is chairperson and managing director of the Mahindra Group, had recently offered cars to Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu. The industrialist's account was flooded with requests from twitterati to reward Thangavelu's achievement with a car through Twitter campaign #TharforMariyappan.
Mahindra tweeted, "But am adding a gift of Rs 10 lakh from my personal account. His paralympian Gold was achieved against higher odds. His was a #Rise moment." He said Thangavelu would be gifted a golden Thar and Rs 10 lakh.
