Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers filed a complaint against comedian Kapil Sharma on Monday for not revealing the name of the civic officer who had allegedly demanded a bribe from him, ANI reported. MNS activist Sandeep Deshpande said they had filed the complaint under a provision of the Indian Penal Code, at Mumbai's Versova Police Station.
Earlier in the day, members of Bharatiya Janata Party staged a protest against the comedian at Mumbai's Oshiwara Police Station. Led by party MLA Ram Kadam, BJP workers demanded that Sharma reveal the name of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official who had allegedly asked for a Rs 5-lakh bribe from him to set up an office.
The bribery controversy came up on Friday after Sharma had tweeted that he was asked to pay Rs 5 lakh when he approached the BMC for the construction of his office. "I am paying 15 cr income tax from last 5 years n still i have to pay 5 lacs bribe to BMC office for making my office (sic)," he had said on Twitter. The comedian had tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi in another tweet and questioned whether these were his "achhe din [good days]", referring to Modi's election promise. He later clarified that he did not mean to blame any political party.
