Hillary Clinton, the US Democratic presidential nominee, was suffering from pneumonia when she had a health-related episode at a New York ceremony to mark the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks on Sunday. She had to leave the venue in the middle of the event, and her associates were seen physically supporting her as she struggled her way to her campaign vehicle.

Clinton was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and given antibiotics, according to Dr Lisa Bardack, who attended to her. Dr Bardack said Clinton became dehydrated during the ceremony, causing her condition to deteriorate. She said the politician was now "recovering nicely", reported BBC.

In a statement, Dr Bardack said, "Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies. On Friday, during follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule." Clinton has reportedly cancelled a two-day campaign trip to California.
