Jamie Murray joined his brother Andy to have a US Open title in his kitty and he and Bruno Soares convincingly beat Pablo Carreno-Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the men's doubles at the US Open 2016.
Carreno-Busta and Garcia-Lopez took an early lead in the game. Murray and Soares came came back slowly into the contest.
The Brazilian-British duo's understanding and placement helped them get into the lead in the first set. Murray's play at the net was top notch. Playing deep, Soares' cross-court returns were on target.
Murray took a medical time out as he was struggling with his shoulder. When play was resumed, Soares and he stepped up their game several notches, breaking their opponents' serve and eking out three quick points.
Soares's serving improved, and he even delivered an ace. With the score standing at 5-2, Carreno-Busta and Garcia-Lopez rallied, but Murray was once again quick to pounce at the net with the volleys. It was the Scot's return that handed the set to Murray and Soares.
Murray went from strength to strength in the second set while Carreno-Busta and Garcia-Lopez lost their rhythm. Once Soares and Murray got into their groove, they took several points in a row. At championship point, Carreno-Busta and Garcia-Lopez won a point, but only to prolong the inevitable. Murray's left-handed serve swept the last game without dropping a point to win the championship.
