A woman from Jaipur was arrested on Thursday for killing her four-month-old baby girl, reported NDTV. The baby was found inside an unused air conditioner with 17 stab wounds on August 26. The mother, Neha Goyal, allegedly slit her daughter's throat with a kitchen knife because she was upset about having a second daughter. The other child is eight years old.
The baby's body was found after a two-hour search when Goyal raised the alarm saying she was missing. Investigators said the blood found on the baby matched Goyal's. They said blood was also found in her bathroom.
Angshuman Bhomia, a police officer, said Goyal had planned the murder. She had performed several pujas hoping for a son, and was very unhappy when the girl was born. Her husband said he could never have imagined she would do such a thing. Goyal also reportedly considered options such as in-vitro fertilisation and surrogacy, thinking it would help her have a son.
