The big news: Eoin Morgan won't go to Bangladesh
England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan will not be travelling with the team for the tour of Bangladesh in October owing to security concerns. According to a report from SunSport on Thursday, Morgan has communicated his decision to Andrew Strauss, the director of the England cricket team.
Morgan's experience of previous security scares could have led to this decision. He cited two instances where lack of security was a cause of concern. In 2010 during the Indian Premier League, a bomb blast injured 15 people near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The second incident occurred in Bangladesh when Morgan experienced pre-election violence in 2013.
The security situation in Bangladesh remains volatile after 20 people were killed in Dhaka in July when gunmen stormed a bakery. Australia had cancelled a planned tour to the country in 2015 due to similar concerns.
While the England and Wales Cricket Board had given the go-ahead for the tour to go ahead after getting clearance from a security delegation, it remains to be seen whether other England players follow Morgan in pulling out of the tour.
