Curfew-like restrictions were re-imposed in parts of Kashmir on Friday, reports said. According to News18, officials in the region claimed there was no curfew imposed anywhere but that pedestrians and traffic were restricted in Srinagar. They also reportedly said essential goods were being allowed to move in the state capital. However, the restrictions came after separatists called for protests on Friday, India Today reported.
Chief of Army staff General Dalbir Singh is in Srinagar to review the security situation in the state. Singh will also reportedly meet Governor NN Vohra later on Friday.
Curfew had recently been removed in parts of Srinagar and the Valley after being imposed because of protests triggered by the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8. Thousands of people have been affected by violence and a shutdown of normal life in the state, and at least 75 civilians have died in the last 63 days.
The unrest in the region has triggered a political crisis, as well as a deterioration in bilateral ties with Pakistan after the neighbouring country has called for plebiscites in the state and brought up alleged humans rights violations there.
