A crude bomb was hurled at the Bharatiya Janata Party office in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday night, PTI reported. While the saffron party's state leader Kummanam Rajasekharan claimed that the ruling Left coalition government was behind the attack, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) denied the allegations. There were three party workers in the office at the time of the blast, but nobody was hurt in the incident.
The attack took place around 45 minutes after the state party chief had left the office. Kummanam Rajasekharan said, "The CPM'S hundred days in power is synonymous with violence. It's a breakdown of law and order and we will defend ourselves in every possible manner." The party has announced a march on Wednesday in protest against the attack, reported NDTV.
Reacting to the allegations, Left leader Anavoor Nagappan said, "The CPM has no role in the attack. Allegations that the CPM is behind the attack are only for political gains." Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner S Sparjan Kumar confirmed the attack, and said glass panes of the main entrance door were damaged in the explosion.
The Left Democratic Front is in power in the state with Pinarayi Vijayan as the chief minister.
