More than 80 civilians were injured when Syrian government forces reportedly dropped barrel bombs containing chlorine on the Sukari area of Aleppo, reported BBC. According to emergency workers, people suffered severe breathing difficulties after the bombs were dropped in the area.

Though an investigation carried out by a United Nations team in August has revealed that the Bashar al-Assad regime has used the weapon twice before, the government has vehemently denied the findings. According to Ibrahem Alhaj, who works with volunteer emergency group Syrian Civil Defense, government choppers dropped four cylinders of chlorine, which is banned by the Chemical Weapons Convention. The group posted a video of distressed civilians following the attack.

The development was confirmed by United Kingdom-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights that is tracking the ongoing war in the region, reported Al Jazeera.
