A civilian was killed in Kabul after militants attacked a charity called Pamlarena, which means care in Pashto language. Officials said three gunmen had entered the building after staging a suicide bombing in front of it, but they were gunned down by security forces after an 11-hour siege. Six others were injured in the incident, Al Jazeera reported.

While AFP reported that it was unclear whether the target was international charity CARE, a BBC report said the humanitarian group's offices in the Shar-e-Naw area were attacked. Gunshots and explosions were heard in the posh neighbourhood as the attack was underway. An official of the Afghan Interior Ministry said 31 people were evacuated from the building.

The siege began hours after 24 people were killed and 91 injured in twin blasts carried out by the Taliban. Bombers detonated their explosives near buildings that housed the country's Defence Ministry. An Interior Ministry representative said a district police chief and five other officers were among those killed.
