Tennis World No. 1 Serena Williams now has the highest number of Grand Slam match victories, with her 308th win on Monday. She defeated Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2, 6-3 at the US Open, surpassing the record Roger Federer had earlier set.
The 34-year-old said, "It's a huge number. I think it's very significant, actually. I think it's something that just really talks about the length of my career, in particular. I've been playing for a really long time. But also, given that consistency up there – that's something that I'm really proud of."
Williams added that she planned on winning many more matches at the tennis majors. "I know he does," she said, referring to Federer, AP reported. So far, the World No. 1 has clinched 88 US Open matches, 86 at the Wimbledon, 74 at the Australian Open and 60 at the Roland Garros French Open.
