Suspended Aam Aadmi Party legislator and former Delhi Social Welfare minister Sandeep Kumar’s private secretary Praveen Kumar was arrested by the Delhi Police on Monday for allegedly circulating an explicit videotape involving the MLA. A Delhi Police officer said Praveen Kumar was arrested from the Delhi Secretariat and will be “questioned in the case”, the Hindustan Times reported. Meanwhile, a Delhi court remanded Sandeep Kumar (pictured above) in three days of police custody in a case of rape registered against him by after a woman seen in the video filed a complaint, The Indian Express reported.
The official said Praveen Kumar was arrested after Sandeep Kumar told his questioners that he suspected his aide of leaking the “objectionable CD”, in which the former minister is reportedly seen in a compromising position with two women. Police will try and determine the secretary’s “alleged role in the entire controversy”, the officer added. “If found guilty, he may be booked under relevant sections.”
The suspended MLA was arrested last Saturday on rape charges after the woman seen with him in the video alleged that he drugged and assaulted her after she went to him for help with her ration card. Police officials said that they had filed a case against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as under the Information Technology Act. Sandeep Kumar denied all charges against him, saying he has been targeted because he is a Dalit. He was also suspended from the AAP after the tape was made public.
