Nico Rosberg cut Lewis Hamilton's lead in the Formula One Drivers' Championship to two points by winning the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday. Hamilton, who was in pole position, made a terrible start to the race and slipped to sixth in the early stages. Rosberg, who started in P2, moved to a commanding lead and finished 15 seconds ahead of his Mercedes teammate. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel took the final podium position, while his teammate Kimi Raikkonen came in fourth in the Italian manufacturer's home grand prix.
After trailing Hamilton by 19 points two races ago, the momentum is firmly back with Rosberg with seven grands prix to go this season. Rosberg now has seven race victories to his name, compared to Hamilton’s six. It looks like there is going to be a fight to the finish between the two Mercedes drivers in the championship.
Another 1-2 for Mercedes boosted their lead in the constructor's championship to 498 points, while Ferrari (279) closed in on Red Bull (290) in second place.
