At least 36 people have died in a collision between a passenger bus and fuel tanker in Southern Afghanistan on Sunday, BBC reported. The bus was travelling from Kandahar to Kabul when the accident took place in Zabul province.
The victims were burnt beyond recognition. The country’s badly maintained roads have led to a troubling traffic accident record. Spokesperson for the Zabul provincial governor, Gul Islam Seyal, accused the drivers involved of reckless driving.
The stretch, where the accident took, is vulnerable to militant attacks, compelling drivers to race through it to avoid any confrontation. In May, 2016, 73 people lost their lives when two buses and a fuel tanker collided on the highway in Ghazni. Thirty people died in another accident in April 2013.
