Boppanna and his partner Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski won their first round encounter 7-5 6-4 against the duo of Jamie Loeb and Noah Rubin from the United States in a match that lasted just over an hour.
Top seeds Sania Mirza and her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig began their quest for a mixed doubles crown with an easy win over the American pairing of Taylor Townsend and Donald Young. Mirza and Dodig dismantled their opponents 6-4 6-4 to progress to round two.
