Rohan Bopanna and his Danish partner Frederik Nielsen were eliminated from the US Open on Saturday after losing 2-6 6-7 (5) to United States' Brian Baker and New Zealand’s Marcus Daniell in their second round men's doubles encounter. The duo had been billed to make the second week at New York, but were undone by some fine net play.
The other Indian casualty at Flushing Meadows on Saturday was Leander Paes. The 43-year-old veteran and his German partner Andre Begemann lost 6-2 5-7 4-6 in their first round encounter against the duo of Stephane Robert of France and Dudi Sela of Israel. They bagged the first set 2-6 and were in complete control of the match. However, they failed to carry the momentum into the second and third set to eventually fall short in a match that lasted for two hours.
