Rape and murder convicts in Maharashtra will not be granted parole, the Devendra Fadnavis government has decided, after the security guard who killed Pallavi Purkayastha went absconding after he was granted furlough. The state's Home Department put all parole applications on hold last week, till the rules are revised and notified, reported New18.
The chief minister has reportedly given his approval to the proposal to amend the existing rules, and the changes were sent for notification on Friday evening, reported dna. According to the new rules, people convicted for serious crimes such as child trafficking will not be granted parole except for emergencies. This includes circumstances in which a father, mother, spouse, son, daughter, brother or sister has died or is seriously ill, or if the convict's son, daughter, brother or sister is getting married. The emergency parole will be granted for a maximum of seven days.
