The bronze medal Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt won at the 2012 Olympics is likely to be upgraded to silver, The Indian Express reported on Tuesday. A new doping test found the original silver medalist, Besik Kudukhov of Russia, guilty of using banned substances, which will push Dutt’s result up. Kudukhov died in a car accident in 2013.
Dutt also confirmed the upgradation of his medal on Twitter.
The Indian wrestler had lost to Kudukhov in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s 60 kg freestyle event in London. With the upgrade, Dutt will become the second wrestler from India to win an Olympics silver. Sushil Kumar had also won silver in the men’s 66 kg freestyle event at the Games that year.
