Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has appointed 22 parliamentarians as special representatives and has assigned them a mandate to campaign against "Indian brutalities in Kashmir," Indian and Pakistani news agencies reported on Saturday. Sharif has ordered the envoys to highlight the "Kashmir cause across the world so that he can shake the collective conscience of the international community," Radio Pakistan reported.
Sharif told the state-run radio service that he will remind the United Nations of its promise of self-determination to the Kashmiri people through his General Assembly address in September. He said the Kashmir issue was the international organisation's most persistent shortcoming.
According to Times Now, Pakistani officials indicated that the envoys will lobby in at least 11 countries and international platforms, including USA, Russian Federation, China, United Kingdom, Belgium, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
