A number of top leaders had demanded action against Chhotepur and approached the party's national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. AAP spokesperson Himmat Singh Shergill had said there was "no mercy for corruption in the party", according to NDTV.
Chhotepur had denied the allegations, saying he had merely accepted "party fund" from the volunteer. However, it is against party policies to accept donations in cash. The senior politician had also claimed it was a conspiracy against him. A party leader had said the volunteer gave Chotepur Rs 2 lakh in cash.
