Gujarat police officer Rajkumar Pandiyan, a suspect in the alleged fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati, was discharged by a Special CBI Court on Thursday, PTI reported. While passing the verdict, Judge MB Gosavi noted that Pandiyan was being released beacuse there was no sanction (permission to prosecute) against him.
CBI officials said Pandiyan was a member of the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad which narrowed down on Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser Bi. According to the investigators, he was part of the conspiracy right from its nascent stage. Pandiyan was suspended in 2007 in connection with the encounter case. He is currently a liaison officer at the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation in Mumbai.
In 2014, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah was exonerated of charges in connection with the case.
