Veteran Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan has confirmed that the ongoing Sri Lanka-Australia series will be his last outing before he retires from all forms of cricket. The 39-year-old has played 329 One-Day Internationals and 78 Twenty20 Internationals, and has also captained his country in the past.

Dilshan's finest exploits in the shorter formats came in the World Twenty20 in 2009, when he invented the "Dilscoop" – where he knelt down on one knee and paddled the ball behind the wicket-keeper to great effect. Despite Sri Lanka losing in the final, Dilshan was named the Player of the Tournament.

The 39-year-old went through another purple patch between 2013 and 2015. However, since the 2015 World Cup, he has only scored 452 runs in ODIs at a modest average of 32.28.

Dilshan's 10,248 runs in ODI cricket puts him in an elite club of international batsman to score more than 10,000 runs, and is the fourth-highest on the all-time tally for his country, behind Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene.

Sri Lanka will play three more ODIs with Australia with the five-match series currently level at 1-1. Two T20Is will also be played.
