Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has said that the Centre will train and employ 50,000 youths from Jammu and Kashmir in the next one year under its 'Seekho Aur Kamao' (learn and earn) scheme, reported PTI. The minister said that the Union government will set up three centres in the Valley, Leh and Kargil, but added that work will only start once normalcy returns to the state, reported the Hindustan Times.
Naqvi further elaborated that under the scheme youngsters, including school dropouts, will be trained in local skills and later provided with employment in private security agencies, hotels and hospitals by the government. He said, “We will give them certificates on completion of training. Our focus is to give them employment."
Parts of the Valley continue to be under curfew since Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani’s killing triggered violence across the state. On Wednesday, another civilian was killed in clashes between protesters and security forces, taking the toll to 66. Thousands have been injured in the ongoing crisis.
