The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday filed a first information report against members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam who protested outside the state Assembly in Chennai. Around 80 of the party’s legislators had held a mock session after Speaker P Dhanapal suspended them from the Assembly for a week on Wednesday. They had also been stopped from entering the office space allocated to the DMK in the Assembly premises.
The police filed two cases, under IPC Section 153 (wantonly causing provocation with intent to cause riot) and under IPC section 188(defying orders promulgated by a public servant), The News Minute reported.
Party members had been suspended after chaos in the Assembly following a supposedly mocking remark made about Opposition leader Stalin’s Nammaku Naame roadshow. The DMK had later challenged the suspension of its party MLAs in the Chennai High Court.
