At least 27 people have been killed as heavy rains and floods continue to affect parts of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. While fifteen deaths were reported from different parts of Madhya Pradesh, five people died after house collapsed in a village in Baran district, Rajasthan, because of incessant rains in the region. Separately, seven others were killed after their house was destroyed by boulders that came loose from a hill after a cloudburst in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department predicted heavy showers for parts of these states even as the Army and Indian Air Force conduct relief and rescue operations. At least 24 people were airlifted out of Baran. IAF aircraft also dropped food and medicine packets in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, according to senior officials there.

The reports of the deaths and come two weeks after Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare floods in the state a national problem. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said at least 1.26 lakh people across 10 districts in the state had been affected by flooding there, with as many as 14,000 people in relief camps.
