An Uber driver from Mumbai was arrested on Friday for allegedly molesting an Italian passenger. The incident came to light after the woman shared a post on social media, which was shared by more than 7,000 people.
According to The Hindu, the driver starting chatting with the woman, then asked her to come sit with him in the front seat, which she refused to do. He then stopped the vehicle, said he had some to get something from the car’s rear side, and allegedly molesting her. She screamed and got out of the car.
The police said the incident took place in the city’s Juhu area late Thursday night. The woman reported the crime the next morning. Uber officials said the driver, who was identified as Shehbaaz Shaikh, has been suspended. He was later arrested and will be produced before a city court on Saturday.
