Author Chetan Bhagat on Friday announced his new book One Indian Girl. The book – the writer's first from a woman's point of view – tells the story of a girl who finds it "difficult to get love" because she is "intelligent and successful". It hopes to "question society, which judges women achievers".
Bhagat said on his website, "I have wanted to write in female first person for the past several years. Not only that, I wanted that book to be about women and deal with feminism. To do all this as a male writer was a huge challenge." He added that he "didn't have the confidence" to do it earlier and attempted it only after writing for more than a decade.
The author is known for his works such as Five Point Someone, One Night @ the Call Center, The 3 Mistakes of My Life, 2 States, Revolution 2020 and Half Girlfriend. Bollywood movies Three Idiots, Hello, Kai Po Che and 2 States were all based on his books.
