At least three people were killed and more than 40 were injured in Turkey when a car bomb exploded near a police station in the Van province, east of the country, on Wednesday, reported Reuters. The police station also serves as a barrack for the force. The local governor said a majority of the people who were injured in the attack were civilians, reported state broadcaster TRT. The local police have not yet disclosed how many of the deceased were from the force.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim addressed the nation on live television and confirmed the incident. The attack has not been claimed by any militant group so far. However, Kurdish groups are known to attack police stations and barracks with car bombs.
