Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat sustained a knee injury during her bout with Yanan Sun of China in the quarter-finals of the women's freestyle 48 kg wrestling competition at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday. With Phogat trailing Sun 1-2 midway through the bout, an attempted hold on the Chinese gave way and the Indian twisted her leg badly.
The match was immediately stopped and medical help was called for. The Indian physio, on inspecting Phogat's injury, declared that she would not be able to continue. Sun qualified for the semi-finals with a victory via injury.
