The Central Board of Secondary Education announced the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (phases 1 and 2) on Tuesday, a day before they were scheduled. Candidates can check their results on the official website for NEET by CBSE. Six lakh candidates appeared for NEET 1 on May 1, while four lakh aspirants took the NEET 2 test on July 24.
NEET has been a subject of political debate since it was first pitched in 2012. More than 80 cases opposing the test have been filed – two of these by state governments and the rest by private and minority institutes. Private institutes opposed the test because they wanted a greater say in the content, while regional institutions were worried that students taught in vernacular languages would be at a disadvantage as the test is conducted in English and Hindi.
