World No. 10 PV Sindhu is through to the quarter-finals of the women's singles badminton tournament of the Rio Olympics after beating Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying in the round of 16 on Tuesday. Sindhu won the match against the world No. 8 player 21-13 21-15 in less than 50 minutes.
The 21-year-old Indian dominated both games and won six consecutive points to take the first one 21-13. In the second game, Sindhu raced to a 20-12 lead, giving herself eight match points. Tai saved three, but then hit the shuttlecock long to hand Sindhu the win.
Sindhu will face world No. 2 Wang Yihan of China in the quarter-finals on Wednesday at 3.25 am IST.
