Indian shuttler Pusarla V Sindhu beat Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu-ying in the round of 16 of the women's singles badminton tournament of the Rio Olympics on Tuesday. Sindhu, ranked 10th in the world, won the match 21-13 21-15 to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Sindhu raced to a 12-6 lead in the first game, before world No. 8 Tai momentarily looked to be coming back into it, making it 15-13 in the Indian's favour. However, Sindhu upped her game and won six consecutive points to take the first game 21-13.
The second game went in almost similar fashion as Sindhu took a 11-6 lead, before giving herself eight match points with the score at 20-12. Tai saved three of the match points, but could not stop the Indian from taking the game 21-15 and, thereby, the match.
Sindhu will face world No. 2 Wang Yihan of China in the quarter-finals on Wednesday at 3.25 am IST.
