India’s lone hope in the men’s singles badminton event at the Rio Olympics, Kidambi Srikanth defeated Denmark’s Jan Jorgensen in straight games in the round of 16 on Monday. Srikanth, who is ranked 11 in the world, beat the World No. 5 Jorgensen 21-19 21-19 to book his place in the quarter-finals. Srikanth had won only once in his three encounters against the Dane before this.
The first game was tight, with both players trading shots of high quality. Srikanth was on the offensive, smashing every shot and in the end, won it 21-19. The second game was a closely fought encounter as well. However, the Indian kept his cool and eventually won the game 21-19 and with it, the match.
